Dr. Lies van Bekkum specializes in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, labor and birth preparation, EMDR for perinatal trauma, and other traumatic experiences. With a compassionate, client-centered approach, she is passionate about supporting individuals in processing childhood experiences and navigating challenging family dynamics. Dr. van Bekkum utilizes an integrative therapeutic framework, drawing from modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients connect with their inner world and access deeper healing. She works collaboratively with clients to identify their needs, enhance coping strategies, build emotional resilience, and communicate more effectively. She is dedicated to fostering healthier, more fulfilling relationships, helping clients achieve greater emotional well-being, and empowering them to lead balanced, authentic lives.
In addition to supporting parents, Dr. van Bekkum recognizes birth workers, therapists, and healthcare providers as a key population she serves. She understands these professionals’ unique challenges in high-stakes environments like birth and healthcare. By offering a space for them to process their own experiences, Lies provides the support they need to maintain their well-being while continuing to offer compassionate care to others.
Lies is also passionate about working with clients on complex and intersecting identities, including race, ethnicity, nationality, language, gender expression, and sexual orientation. She creates a safe, inclusive space where clients can explore and honor every aspect of their identity.
